Dr. Diana Míguez, Pharma. Chem, PhD
Diana Míguez works as Grade 5 Researcher at Latitud, the R&D&I Foundation of the Uruguayan Technology Laboratory (LATU) since 2017.
Diana graduated from the University of the Republic, obtaining a degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry in 1989. She got her doctorate degree (PhD) at Cranfield University, United Kingdom in 2013, at the Cranfield Water Science Institute of the Applied Sciences School. Diana got certified as environmental auditor and environmental manager based on the ISO 14000 Standard (DGQ, Germany). She took postgraduate courses on Advanced Aquatic Ecotoxicology (Gothenburg University), Respirometry in Health Engineering (Arkansas University), Environmental Impact Assessment (University of Mar del Plata) and Water Risk Management (University of Tampere), Water and Sewage as Human Rights (LA-WETnet – Latin American Network for Capacity Building on Water Integrated Management and the Spanish International Cooperation Agency for Development (AECID)), Transboundary Aquifer Management (Strathclyde University).
She presented more than 53 scientific papers, 14 of which were published in peer-reviewed journals, and more than 35 at international conference proceedings: in addition, she wrote one chapter in a book and has participated in international conferences as guest lecturer and as coordinator, member of the Scientific Committee and chairperson. Registered Researcher at the National Researchers System (SNI). Diana Miguez is member of the Global Water Partnership (GWP) (Alternate President), the International Water Association (IWA), the International Medical Geology Association (IMGA), the Latin American Network for the Analysis of Environmental Quality in Latin America (RACAL), and the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC); she is also a member of the Consultative Committee for the Endocrine Disruptors Testing and Risk Assessment (EDTRA), as the only Latin American member. She is a scientific reviewer for the publishers Elsevier and Springer, and project evaluator for CSIC, ANII and the European Union´s Erasmus.
She co-supervises undergraduate, PhD and Master’s degree theses for national universities: University of the Republic, ORT, UTEC and Universities abroad, including: UNESCO-IHE, Univalle, TÜDelft, Wageningen and Upsala.
Associated Professor of Water Toxicology at UCUDAL and UDELAR and of Method Validation for CYTED in Cartagena de Indias. Diana has given several lectures as an invited professor in Uruguay (School of Chemistry and Biochemistry at ORT University), in America (Universidad de la Frontera, Chile) and Europe (UNESCO-IHE and Konstanz University).
She is advisor to the National Directorate for Water in COASAS, a body that regulated the Law on Water and created the structure for the Integrated Management of Water Resources, at Basins Committees and at UNIT’s Committee for the Standardization of Drinking Water.
